Double Rainbow

One at a Time!

By Rev. Dr. Rainbow Johnson

He that loveth not knoweth, not God; for God is love.

1John 4:9

We are to look for God in each other and love this God, forgetting all else.

Double Rainbow

Have you ever felt that there was so much to do, so many people to see and deal with, and not enough time even to know where to begin?

Well, Religious Science points the way to answer this challenge by telling us that Love solves all dilemmas. Jesus boiled it down to the two great commandments that teach us to love God with all our hearts, souls, strength and minds, and love our neighbor as ourselves. Although this teaching may sound abstract to us, children can understand this easily.

Susie was baby-sitting for Tasha, age 4, and Micah, age 6. Their mother, Jean, was in the hospital. Susie was about to read them the nursery rhyme “There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.” All at once she said to the children: “I don’t want to read this one because it is too sad and negative.”

Tasha took Susie’s hands, looked her square in the face and said: “Read it anyway, Susie. Sometimes we have to go through sad things.” As Susie read the rhyme, they all looked at the illustration and counted 47 children in the shoe. Susie said: “No wonder this woman is having such trouble taking care of all those children. There are 47 of them.”

Tasha looked at Susie and said pertly: “No, Susie. It’s really easy. You just love them one at a time.”

Today, I totally surrender my day to God.

Whatever experiences I have and whomever I meet,

I know they are there for the highest good of all, and I just love them one at a time.
