A First-Rate Soup
“ A first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting.” Abraham Maslow’s profound words call attention to many people who feel they have to do something impressive to be doing God’s work.
God’s work is occurring right where you are. In fact, when you are engaged in your daily routine or are busy making future plans, life is happening!
When I lived in Kilauea, Kauai, I knew a young postmistress who complained that if only she could leave her job, she could really help others by working in an orphanage. Meanwhile, she was loving and kind to every one of her 700 patrons. She always had a cheerful word. She baby-sat when people had to go to the one general store of the town. She was cooking a beautiful first-rate soup and adding more delectable ingredients every moment.
Look around you. Your life is your work of art ... it is a masterpiece! Instead of worrying about what you could do some day, figure out what you can do today. Be prepared ... live today with heaven in your soul!
The first thing I do today is smile at the very next person I meet ... and the next ... and the next. I follow the smile with an encouraging remark made sincerely.
I stop my critical current of energy and transform it into a love-wave.
My “soup” amazes me because it gets better with age.
I refuse to wait until tomorrow.
Today ... I am in paradise!
