Cast Down Your Bucket Where You Are

O Lord, how manifold are thy works!

In wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

— Psalm 104:24

It is impossible to measure time;

for yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not come,

and today is rapidly slipping past.

Cast Down Your Bucket Where You Are

In one of his many outstanding speeches, Booker T. Washington told of a ship that had been lost at sea for many days. Suddenly it was sighted by the crew of a friendly vessel. A message from the unfortunate ship signaled, “Water, water, we die of thirst!” The answer came from the friendly vessel at once, “Cast down your bucket where you are.” A second signal was sent immediately, “Water, water … send us water!” And a third and then a fourth signal for water was, answered, “Cast down your bucket where you are.” The captain of the troubled ship finally heeded the advice of the nearby ship and cast down his bucket. To his great joy, he drew it up and discovered it was filled with fresh, sparkling water from the mouth of the Amazon River!

Perhaps you have met someone in a similar situation, which could be known as the “if-only” disease. “If only I were married … if only I were single … if only it were Friday … if only I were grown up, … if only I were young again … “

This disease can be cured easily without a physician! Just cast down your bucket where you are and find ten beautiful, wonderful things in your life right now!

I stop sending SOS signals to other people, places, and things.

I cast down my bucket and drink deeply of the water of life,

tasting every succulent drop.

Each breath fills me with vital energy, life, and health.

I am alive and well!

Thank you, Father!
