... ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
— John 8:32
... the very law which creates bondage could as easily create freedom.
— The Science of Mind, page 411
Liberation is something that comes from within ourselves. It does not come via a law put upon us from without. No man can tell us that because of our sex, race, religion, or nationality that we are in bondage or we are free.
There is only one thing that frees us: the awareness of the existence of a universal law over which we have control. It is our very own thoughts that are the key to freedom. In all the world, there is one place, and only one place, where we have total dominion — our own mind! Until we realize this, and until we wake up to the fact that we are in the driver’s seat of our own lives, we will continue to be victims of the thoughts and deeds of others as well as our own negative thoughts and emotions.
“But what if we were born in a slave camp?” you might ask. Even so, your attitude would determine your behavior. If you always had ideas of escaping, your disposition would be so much different than if you had programmed yourself into the hopelessness of non-ending imprisonment.
It does not take a governmental decree to free yourself from restrictions. It is just a matter of knowing! Yes! You are already free!
Today is my Independence Day!
I am now liberated from all the thoughts which were holding me in bondage.
I have signed the emancipation proclamation of my own life.
I know Truth.
The universal law of cause and effect is not specialized for only certain people.
I can use it.
I direct this law with my very own thoughts.
I plunge ahead into the sea of existence, knowing there are unlimited vistas of joy ahead.
I set off firecrackers of praise because I accept this knowledge.
Today I am master of my own destiny!
