I’m a Great Person!
Dan, the Director of the rehabilitation program for which I am the clergy counselor, called me into his office. “Listen, Rainbow. I want you to do a Self Esteem Workshop tomorrow night for a group of people who just got out of prison!” As I agreed, I gulped inwardly because I had never done anything like this before. I began meditating and surrendering immediately, asking for guidance. I remembered that Ernest Holmes said that each of us embodies the principle of greatness, of uniqueness.
The next evening, I arrived. There sat a group of people with arms folded, scowling at me as if to say, “I dare you to do anything to me, lady!” I told a joke. They smiled...a little. I wanted them to introduce themselves to one another, so I quickly asked God (my inner voice) how it should be done. The answer came. I had each person stand and say, “Hi. I’m (their name) and I’m a great person!” and then the group echoed that back to them three times. A most amazing thing happened. As each person spoke, his or her face un-frowned, and absolutely lit up, as though they were in touch with their True Essence just for a moment. It was very moving. I asked the group what they thought of the experience. Chris said, “That was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done!”
The next night I was having a counseling session with Chris, and I asked him to tell me one wonderful thing about his life. He paused a long time, and looked me straight in the eyes and said: “Rainbow, I’m a great person!”
Today I am in touch with my inner greatness, for my life is God’s life and God is great. Yes! I say with joy and knowingness: “Yes! I am a great person! Yes! I AM a great person! YES! I AM A GREAT PERSON!! YES!!!”
